In December of 2002, Rick Chida, of Duluth, picked up a guitar and
started playing and writing music based off of previous life
experiences. He convinced his classmate Wes Laine, of Cloquet, to start
playing bass in hopes of someday starting a band. As the two started
playing together, Bill, of Anoka, also started playing bass. Aaron, a
friend of Bill's also from Anoka, Joined in, and the three formed a band
known as Shadows of Me.
Meanwhile, in Cloquet, Wes joined two of his friends from church, Cory
Christofferson, and Travis Hilton, in the band Lost Holiday, with Cory
on guitar and Travis on drums.
Back in Duluth, Rick, Bill and Aaron were playing originals, but simply
weren't seeing enough of each other. With two members living in Anoka
and a lack of dedication, the band broke up.
In December of 2005, nearly three years after the original Wes and Rick
idea, Wes approach Rick, asking him to join his band. Lost Holiday was
looking for a singer. So on December 22, 2005, Rick headed out to
Cloquet with a couple guitars, his POD, amp and a 100-watt power amp.
Wes was the only one there when Rick arrived. Cory and Travis finally
show up, wearing GreenDay and Yellow card respectively. Rick, wearing
his Seether cap and Metallica Tour shirt was beginning to feel
apprehensive. This difference of genre could create a bit of a problem.
Yes, they did play some GreenDay and Fall-Out Boy early on, but their
covers soon transformed into Seether, Cold, Pantera, Default, and Alice
in Chains. As Rick introduced his original his original music, they
decided to keep his band's original name, Shadows of Me. In respect for
Lost Holiday, Shadows of Me first album bore that name. The album was
recorded in Rick's loft, and Cory, Travis, and Wes only knew one of the
five songs recorded that day.
Now, years after journey began with that first meeting, Shadows of Me
has produced the music that plays from the amps, speakers, CD players,
computers and mouths of its members and fans from all over the world!!!
the journey is just beginning!!!!
